Data Mining
Due to continuous innovations in technology such as processing power, storage capacity and algorithms these improvements are significantly increasing the accuracy of analysis of data mining. In simple terms data mining is discovering patterns by examining large amounts of data. Data mining uses algorithms to find statistical patterns and models to find interesting and useful patterns that have practical business benefits.
What are real life examples of data mining? Blockbuster Entertainment uses data mining to collect data on video rental history and in turn recommends new rentals to its customers. Walmart is another example. Walmart uses data mining to send promotions to customers based on their customers buying patterns.
AUM can help deploy a full data mining system from design to implementation and support.
In terms of the technology factors AUM can recommend the following:
- Platform selection, i.e. parallel computers, mainframe, client/server, PC platform
- Storage requirements, i.e. 10GB up to 15 terabytes
- Database requirements
Various forms of analysis such as artificial neural networks, decision trees, nearest neighbor method are employed to find interesting patterns. AUM can work closely with your staff to decide which method of analysis is most suitable.
